❝ | Admiration is the emotion furthest from understanding | ❞ |
Name: Aizen Sousuke
Canon: Bleach
Canon Point: Chapter 684
Age: Not Given (Hundred(s) of Years)
Appearance:
Aizen Sousuke is on the tall and slim side. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Notably, his eyes reflect their beholder’s expectations unless Aizen is letting his callous disregard for the other person show. He is dressed head to toe in black with white trim, including a patch that covers one of his eyes. A white scrap of fabric hangs around his shoulders. Perceptive individuals may sense that these are not actually articles of clothing but rather seals keeping his spiritual pressure in check.
Abilities: https://bleach.fandom.com/wiki/S%C5%8Dsuke_Aizen
* Genius Intellect, Master Manipulator, Master Strategist and Tactician, Historian, Scientist, Teacher, Master Penman.
* Kido (Spell) Master, Shunpo (Fast Movement) Master, Master Swordsman, Hakuda (Hand-to-Hand Combat) Master, Immense Strength, Immense Endurance.
* Immortality, Regeneration (of body parts).
* Immeasurable Spiritual Power, which only grows over time, and masterful control over it.
* Reiatsu (Spiritual Pressure) Shield, vaporizes those that come too near.
* Complete Hypnosis: Aizen has the power to utterly and completely alter perceived reality for other people according to his designs, much like Thanos and the reality stone except this is all in the mind. This is a lasting effect not impacted by Aizen's physical presence or lack thereof. His power requires the person to first be shown the release of his Kyouka Suigetsu, his zanpakutou (sword).
* Hougyoku: the orb implanted in Aizen’s chest granting him immortality and presumably helping his power increase over time. Previously held other uses.
Aizen is basically God and thus as overpowered as they come. HOWEVER he will not be breaking the game, the setting, or other characters because I am his nerf. Yes, Aizen, you might be God but you cannot overcome the fact you are a fictional character. If he were to try and do anything like that, or that another mun doesn't want, his powers would very simply not work as I hope you will see from my sample threads. NOR WILL he be able to use his "complete hypnosis" ability on anyone without OOC planning and permission obtained prior to any threads.
The true fun in playing Aizen lies not in his raw power but in the subtleties of his mind games. That's why I'm here.
Personality:
Aizen Sousuke is, above all else, a dangerous individual. He is unequalled in power and intellect, while at the same time lacks empathy and anything resembling a conscience. The result of this is a self-serving person who tries to alleviate near constant boredom through whatever means necessary.
Aizen stands alone and above the rest in all ways. He is charismatic, enigmatic, and powerful, with eyes that draw in their beholder and reflect exactly what he or she wishes to see.
Aizen goes through several transformations of personality through this lengthy series, revealing him for the chameleon, liar and manipulator that he is.
Aizen is initially looked up to as a pillar of the community and valued as a kind leader who cares about his subordinates. However, this is nothing but a guise as he is only too happy to kill and/or experiment on anyone and everyone without any qualms and as suits his various machinations. This callousness extends to those of Aizen’s subordinates who are aware of his true nature and goals. Aizen has no loyalty to anyone save himself and very little lasting interest in most people. Those who disappoint him or who don’t live up to his expectations are summarily killed or cast aside though not necessarily by him.
There have only been two people Aizen has ever shown any lasting interest in, and one of these he keeps by his side for an untold amount of years because Aizen is aware that, in addition to being a prodigy, this person also wants revenge on him. Aizen thanks his supposedly faithful and close subordinate when said subordinate finally makes his move as “fear is necessary for evolution, the fear that one could be destroyed at any moment.” Aizen also states he would have been content to continue their game forever as Aizen never would have grown this much without the constant threat against his life.
Aizen is purposely enigmatic and, as shown throughout the Arrancar and Fake Karakura Town Arcs, relies on ambiguity and misdirection in order to see his ends achieved. One of his chief methods for relieving his perennial ennui is engaging others in mind games. This is shown when he manipulates one of his subordinates into carrying out a punishment through reverse psychology and again in the method of psychological entrapment he utilizes with success against one of the main heroines.
Aizen doesn’t necessarily care about the success of some of his mind games either. One of his subordinates explains this to another with regards to the psychological entrapment of the heroine, that it would have been fine if it had not worked. Her entrapment is later revealed to be essential to his plans, suggesting Aizen had alternative methods of acquiring her cooperation and that this initial attempt was nothing more than a game for his own amusement.
Aizen’s mind games and plots can be much more complicated than necessary or even logical. In the Soul Society Arc, he executes a gigantic murder mystery plot while heavily mindgaming some of his former subordinates and colleagues for no particular reason than, again, his own amusement. There were many different ways he could have accomplished his ends that would not have resulted in him being unmasked as the perpetrator of many atrocities. However, he lets this happen and even explains himself because it is fun for him and because he doesn’t and has never needed anyone’s validation but his own.
One thing Aizen is after is understanding, as one of his famous quotes attests to: “admiration is the emotion furthest from understanding.” During his big reveal as a villain Aizen states that “the Aizen Sousuke you knew...never existed to begin with” and at another time that it was necessary for him to maintain this facade because everyone was incapable of understanding his true self. It is lonely at the top though and Aizen spends an incalculable amount of time and mental energy cultivating the protagonist of the series, someone who could perhaps one day be something of an equal. On the other hand, he treats the person who arguably admires him the most with nothing but the coldest disregard, using her, betraying her, and almost getting her killed many times. Equally, the Arrancar and Espada who are all beings born from fear and follow Aizen because he supposedly has none are all cast aside by him in the end.
Aizen’s efforts on behalf of the protagonist do indeed make him strong, too strong, as it is ultimately a combination of his power and another person’s trickery that bring Aizen’s aspirations to an end for the moment. Aizen goes through a transformation of personality during the battle from mild mannered and steeped in enigma to an openly arrogant braggart with an obvious god complex. This is not altogether surprising as the fruits of Aizen’s labors conducted over his lifetime are finally coming together. The Hougyoku is finally “understanding his heart” and thus “transforming his soul” into something beyond the likes of anything the world has seen before. However, the Hougyoku also only accepts those with the strongest wills as its master and so, it may ultimately be said that when Aizen’s heart wavers for just a moment it is actually he who brings about his own defeat.
The protagonist correctly identifies the fact that Aizen is lonely and wishes to be a regular death god. This is something the Hougyoku also recognizes with the wavering of Aizen’s heart, as it removes all of his physically monstrous transformations. When we next see Aizen, he has returned to his regular appearance and adopted much of his former mannerisms. However, there is one key difference and this is a characteristic that remains with him for the remainder of the series. Aizen has achieved his primary objective of becoming God despite the appearance of defeat. The Hougyoku renders him immortal and thus when the Central 46 sentence him, he says “for the likes of you to pass judgement on me, it seems rather absurd does it not?” Aizen’s sentence is subsequently raised from 18,800 years to 20,000 years.
During the final arc, it is revealed that Aizen has only continued to grow in power while sealed from head to toe and sitting in prison. Not only that, but when the then leader of Soul Society comes to unseal him and ask for his aid against a fearsome enemy, Aizen manages to free himself with only his mouth unsealed. This and their following conversation leaves the reader with enough subtext to understand that time has lost all meaning for Aizen and that he is willingly submitting to his sentence and can escape from his binds whenever he chooses. Aizen has always been a patient man and his capacity for such has grown to infinite proportions along with his lifespan. He now has all the time in the world to plan his next moves in addition to the power to carry them out.
The utter certainty of all his accomplishments makes Aizen unpredictable. He no longer has anything for which to strive, after all. This brings about a final change in his personality. Although he still enjoys mind games, Aizen now taunts others more openly as well as flaunts his power with abandon. He says whatever is on his mind and his eyes that were once so enigmatic now appear to reflect his heart, which is now as blank, fearless, and pitiless as the sun. The only things Aizen will not stand for are anyone attempting to control him or take away what is rightfully his. After all, none should dare stand above God.
